good question about nutritional supplements. maybe ttdad will research and publish an article for us, hint hint. although i haven’t researched specifically the benefits of supplements, I do know that we absorb nutrients better from food than pills, so it’s best to eat nutrients vs. swallow them. unless your child has a known deficiency, making lots of fresh fruit, veggies, whole grains, legumes, healthy fats, and dairy (or calcium veggies) i would avoid supplements. food allergies are another reason supplementation my be advised.

When you say supplements, do you mean vitamins? The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends kids take vitamins (prescribed by their pediatrician, natch) including a recent call for increased dosages of Vitamin D. Here are some sites that might be of help: http://www.medem.com/medlib/article/ZZZ03BR8W7C and http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/581999
