<description>I give both my children 400IU of vitamin D every day -- what the AAP recommends. Four cups of milk is too much for my 3-year old. I know this amount is safe. It&#039;s really hard to tell if they get enough from the sun and to maximize vitamin D they should be out between 10 and 3pm. Because studies are showing that 7 out of 10 children have lower than optimal levels, I think it&#039;s smart to supplement. I work in a hosptial and they are finding that 90% of babies start of life low in vitamin D! Many moms with low levels end up having babies with low levels.
