How have I missed your newsletter so far? I know that I got an e-mail. It’s been a busy summer, and I guess it slipped by me.

What do I want more of? Hmmm…love reading about food science and good recipes. What do I want less of? So much good stuff here, but I would probably vote for less of the Global Toddlers.

My big question for the experts about childrens’ nutrition is why kids today are having issues eating the same foods my siblings and I ate as children and had no issues ~ is it something different being added to the foods, kids today getting less activity in, etc?

Oh, forgot to say, the biggest thing I would ask my pediatrician would be, “Why, oh why do you give out lollipops at your office? You are supposed to be taking care of my kids bodies.” I shouldn’t have to ask for stickers as an alternative they should be the only thing available.

One of the questions I have is regarding milk. How much whole milk is necessary? Should my nearly-17-month-old be drinking whole milk ALL the time? I worry about her fat intake a lot because there is heart disease and hypertension in our family in a BIG way – I want to get her started correctly down a road that will help her to avoid those issues.

(I always worry about asking this question because worrying about toddler fat intake seems sort of silly, especially as she’s at a very healthy weight/size, but I worry about her heart with all the history).

If you could ask one question to your pediatrician or a nutrition expert about your child’s nutrition, what would it be?

Q. How much water(daily) does my child need? Thanks

I’m always looking for uplifting sources of information, everyone addresses how to make the body better, but very few deal with the mind! I’d like to think I’ve made pro-active steps to create what I need more of in my own blog, but I’d love expand my knowledge base in that area!

If you could ask one question to your pediatrician or a nutrition expert about your child’s nutrition, what would it be?
I frequently ask the Ped and GI about various nutritional things. I think that a good question would be about the benefits of extended breastfeeding (or integrating breastmillk into the diet after age two)

216 Renee Turner July 3, 2009 at 2:51 pm

If I could ask one question to my pediatrician or a nutrition expert about myr child’s nutrition, it would be- How much fat and protein is my 4 year old supposed to get and if he doesn’t get that much should he be taking a vitamin?

I would love to ask our pediatrician if eating too much meat is harmful to our young children, not our baby for obvious reasons, but out 4 and 7 year olds. We do eat a lot of meat in our home, as well as lots of veggies and fruits, but I often wonder if there is such a thing with young kids as too much. What is the happy medium there.

I like the Simple Recipes, and I’d like to see more, but my problem is food allergies in the family. For example, my husband is allergic to onions, and so many of the recipes you list have onions in them. Maybe you could offer a section (or if you have it, I missed it) on food substitutions and how to make recipes allergy-friendly.
